Major and mild neurocognitive disorders are characterized by a decline in cognitive abilities that were acquired, not present from birth. These disorders affect areas like memory, attention, language, learning, and perception.

 

They can be caused by medical conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, HIV infection, Parkinson's disease, substance or medication use, vascular disease, and others.
